House Concerts with Music Friends!
When people think of classical music, you’re usually thinking of orchestras and soloists in a giant concert hall. But a lot of the music was originally written as chamber music – to be played to a small group of people in a regular room, perhaps in a royal court or in the home of a patron family. At Music Friends, we bring great classical music from professional artists into intimate and social settings such as living rooms and other smaller spaces. We strive to challenge the conventions of the traditional classical music concert to make it a more enjoyable experience for a wider audience. The more intimate setting means you get to interact with the musicians and the other guests afterwards – each concert ends with a Q&A, and we’ll also provide wine and cheese! It’s not just a concert, it’s a community.Upcoming Concerts:December 7th (Sat), 7:30 pm at UBC ($35+tax) – The Aurora Piano Trio Plays MendelssohnWe’re ecstatic to welcome back violinist Yuel Yawney and pianist Libby Yu to Music Friends. This time they will be joined by acclaimed cellist Sungyong Lim, Yuel’s colleague from the award-winning Borealis String Quartet. You’ll be enthralled by the experience of hearing three of Vancouver’s finest artists up close in this very special evening. Yuel and Sungyong will open the evening with a duo for violin and cello by Beethoven, and then Yuel and Libby will pair up to present Brahms’ intense and brooding Violin Sonata No. 3, and then all three of them will conclude the evening together with Mendelssohn’s iconic Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor! When buying tickets, choose “Price B”.December 14th (Sat), 7:30 pm (UBC) ($30+tax) – The Burdeti Duo Plays Guitar & Piano DuetsGuitar and piano are two instruments that are not always the most compatible with one another, but yet this amazing husband and wife duo of guitarist Andrei Burdeti and pianist Jannie Burdeti, both alumni of the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, are able to make it work. You’ll be delighted by the Spanish flavour in their program of original and arranged works for this ensemble, including their own transcriptions of the Ravel’s Spanish-inspired Alborada del gracioso and Pavane pour une infant défunte, along with the Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo, probably the most famous concerto written for the guitar. The evening will also feature music by Debussy, Enescu, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, as well as a traditional Chinese piece. We hope you’ll be able to join us for this delightfully unconventional evening of beautiful music! When buying tickets, choose “Price A”.

My time is flexible, so I have no set start time – message me after booking to let me know what time you prefer.
